Where do i leave my car during the hire?

We offer complimentary parking for customers to leave their cars for the hire.

How many people does the Campervan sleep?

VW  sleeps 4 people.

Ford Custom sleeps 4 people

There is a pull-out bed with additional sleeping capacity in the roof space. This is ideal for 2 adults and 2 children.

Mercedes sprinters sleep 2 adults and 1 child

Do the Campervans have heaters?

Yes, all our vans have heaters in the living area.

Do your Campervans take pets?

Yes! We welcome  pets and have a dedicated pet friendly Campervan which allows your real best friend to enjoy your holiday with you.

We do charge £40 per hire for bring along your loved one, this helps cover the cost to deep clean the van for the next guest.

Does the insurance cover our personal belongings?

No, we recommend you take out additional insurance cover for your belongings.

Are we insured when we hire a Staycation Scotland camper? 

Yes, each hire includes fully comprehensive insurance, but note like all hire companies there is excess liability that the main driver is responsible for in event of a claim, as per our insurance agreement. See our T&C’s for more details.

What happens if I break down with the campervan?

We like to keep our fleet quite new so this is very unlikely to happen, however, on the off chance that you were to breakdown you are fully covered with our roadside breakdown service who will assist you and get you on your way.

Is there a mileage limit?

No! We allow unlimited mileage with all our vans so you are free to take it from Lands’ End to John o’ Groats if you so desire!

Can we take the camper outside of the UK?

There is added insurance premiums for taking the campervans outside the UK. Get in touch with us and we will advise you further of this.

Are there toilets in the campervans?

Mercedes  (Frida/Lyla) – yes these include toilet as standard.

VW Crafter (Lulu) has an enclosed shower and toilet

Ford and VW No- these campers do not have toilets as standard. You may hire portable toilets for an additional price.

Do you provide any discount cards for camping and caravan sites whilst on hire?

Yes. Every campervan or motorhome is a privilege member of the camping and caravanning club. This entitles you to a discount for your campsite fees with some sites only allowing members to stay. To try out the UK Club Sites using the Privilege Scheme, all you need to do to book a pitch is call the Camping and Caravanning Club contact centre on 024 7767 0091 for UK Club Sites or 024 7767 0279 for Camping in the Forest and let the advisor know that you have this pack. They will take a small deposit from you to secure your pitch and the balance will be due upon arrival at the site. You’ll need to show the site Mangers the Privilege pack or key fob found in your pack on arrival to the site for the members’ discount to be applied – please be aware that some of the sites operate a minimum booking period.

What is your cancellation policy?

We strongly advise that you take out your own insurance against unavoidable cancellation.

Should you require to cancel your booking more than six weeks before departure date a full refund is applicable.

6 to 4 weeks your 25% deposit will be retained.

If you cancel your booking within 28 days of departure before your departure date, the full amount will be non refundable.

We reserve the right to cancel your booking should you not meet the following criteria:

  1. Failure to pay in full 28 days before your departure.
  2. If any information you have provided us with at booking is incorrect or invalid. eg. Drivers licence number.
  3. When collecting vehicle, all documentation must match the booking details you provided.
Will I be shown a demonstration of how the van works?

Yes! On arrival we will walk you through how to use the van and all the information to get you on your way. Also on your dashboard you will able to access a video demonstration, we are just rolling this out so please bear with us, most vans are on the site, the rest will follow shortly.

Do your vans have Wi-fi?

Yes! We provide complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi in our Campervans. Please note that whilst we provide the router- the strength and signal of the Wi-Fi is area dependant and out of our control.

WHAT IS A DRIVING SUMMARY?

Driving Summary is for UK drivers only!

You can obtain your driving summary from the DVLA website:  View or share your driving licence information – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

You will require the following:

Driving license number

National insurance number

Post code

WHAT PROOF OF ADDRESS IS ACCEPTED?

Our insurance company require 2 x proof of address. For UK drivers these must match your driving license, if it does not match, please update your license on the DVLA website, its a legal requirement.

For Non UK drivers these must be where you reside in but depending on the country you live in, we understand in some countries its not a legal requirement for your driving license to be updated when you move home.

WHAT IS EXCESS?

In the event of any damage, our insurance company have an excess. For our standard insurance this £1500, if you take excess reduction this liability if reduced to £750. Up to the excess the main driver is liable for these cost’s should damage incur to the vehicle.

HOW LONG DOES A BATTERY LAST BEFORE I NEED TO RE CHARGE?

It’s not a easy question to answer as it depends on how many appliances you are running and for how long.

On average we would say 1-2 days, but remember if you are driving each day this charges your battery. The best advice is to monitor your battery and if drops down to 2-3 bars, we would advice to either hook up, drive your vehicle or just run your engine. We would always recommend where possible to stay on campsites with electrical pitches.  

DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS?

WHAT ARE YOUR OPENING HOURS?

Our opening hours are 9-5. 

Note: If you require a pick up or drop off outside these hours, please contract us to discuss your requirements.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THERE IS DAMAGED CAUSED TO THE VEHILCE.?

We will explain this to you fully as part of our check out process.

Note: It’s really important that you inform us of any damage, no mater how minor so we can make sure we order any parts as we have a tight turnaround.

WHEN WILL I KNOW IF THE INSURNACE COMPANY WILL ACCEPT MY APPLICATION?

We ask for your documents 21 days before departure, on average our insurance company make a decision normally with 2 business days. >99% of applications get approved. 

If you reside outside UK, EU, AU, US, CA, NZ & SA  we would recommend that once you booked with us, we will look to get your application over asap, as our insurance company may require further information. 

Note if our insurance does reject your application, we will refund your money paid. 

 

CAN I HIRE A CAMPERVAN IF I HAVE POINTS/CONVICTIONS ON MY LICENCE?

In most cases Yes, but depending on the offence our insurance company have the  right to increase your vehicle excess liability.  This normally occurs when you > 6 points on your UK license.  For non UK  this will depend on the points system in your country.

WHAT AGE DO I NEED TO BE TO DRIVE A CAMPVERVAN?

If you are aged between 23 – 70, have a minimum of 2 years driving experience, this meets our insurance company standard requirements. If you are aged outside of this age bracket, it may be still possible to drive our vehicle but we will be required to refer to our insurance company for a decision.

DO YOU PROVIDE BEDDING IN YOUR CAMPVERANS?

In our Mercedes vans bedding is supplied as part of your inclusive price.

In the VW’s and Fords its an optional extra, white company bedding is £40 per hire, sleeping bags £25 per hire.

 

DOES THE CAMPERVAN COME WITH GAS?

Mercedes vans (Lyla, Frida) come with a full bottle guaranteed as part of the all inclusive price.

VW and Ford we have moved away from gas and gone fully electric with off grid capacity due to our investment in lithium setup. 

Poppy is the only exception to this, this will still require gas bottle, which we will provide.

 

HOW DO I MONTOR THE PROGRESS OF MY BOOKING?

Below is the application process we follow at Staycation Scotland.

Processing: Once you have made a booking with us you will receive an email stating that we are Processing your booking. 

Reserved: This means your vehicle dates are secured, it will stay at this status until we have received all your necessary paper work and you have paid your security deposit.

Confirmed: Your good to go…Your application has been approved by our insurance company and your security deposit paid.

On your dashboard you will see the status of your booking. 

CAN I ADD EXTRAS AFTER I’VE MADE A BOOKING?

Of course, no problem. You can do this via your dashboard.

Note if you want to add an additional driver, please email us their name, email and phone number, we will do the rest…

ARE SPRINTERS CLASSED AS MOTORhOMES ON THE FERRYS?

The Sprinters are classed as a light good vehicle.

Light Goods Vehicles Pickups and Commercial Vehicles 

Light vans and pickups not exceeding 6 metres long, 3 metres high, 2.3 metres wide, and 3.5 tonnes plated weight, are charged at the light goods vehicle rate. The LGV rate includes the driver’s fare.

WHEN WILL MY SECURITY DEPOSIT BE RETURNED?

We process your security deposit withing 24 hours of you returning  the van, subject to no damage occurring.

Depending on your bank it can take up to 10 business days for your records to be updated.

As we take only a pre authorization, you will not see this payment go back in your account, you will see the balance available change as these funds were locked and now released.

WHATS YOUR MINIMUM HIRE?

Our minimum hire period is 3 days. If you want a vehicle for <3 days, we can do this but you will be charged for 3 days. If you are happy with this, please contact us directly and we can assist you. 

What is your standard collection time?

Our collection time is between 15:00 and 16:00. If you would like a time outside this window, please contact us.

What is standard return time

The van is required to be back by 11:00 clock. If you need a later return, please contact us for availability. 

Are your vehicles designed for off grid living?

We have a wide selection of vans. Our Ford and VW vans are all designed with off grid in mind, our crafter (Lulu) also has a shower  and toilet. Our Mercedes has  gas cooking facilities , so only the 230v won’t work off grid. While these vans can accommodate off grid, we always advice to use campsites where possible.  

Do you offer early pick up or late return?

Yes, we do for a £50 fee, providing the van is already in the day before/after. This can be added on at the time of booking under the extras/add-ons part or anytime afterwards by contacting us.
