Oban punches well above its size. It has a proper harbour town feel — fresh oysters and langoustines straight off the boats, the iconic McCaig’s Tower watching over the bay, and a distillery right in the town centre producing one of Scotland’s most approachable single malts.

But the real draw is what surrounds it. To the north, the dramatic landscapes of Glencoe and Appin. To the south, the Kintyre Peninsula and the Mull of Kintyre. To the west, a string of islands each with their own character — wild and whisky-soaked Islay, mountainous Mull with its white-tailed eagles, tiny Seil connected to the mainland by the famous Bridge Over the Atlantic.

A campervan is the ideal way to experience all of it. You can take ferries with your van to Mull or Islay, waking up somewhere entirely different each morning without ever having to pack a bag.
